“Hypnotherapy can often help in treating obesity, an observation that is one of the most clinically confirmed in all the literature on hypnosis.”
—Clinical Hypnosis: Principles and Applications by Harold B. Crasilneck, Ph.D. and James A. Hall, M.D.
This is a no-bull article on how to get from where you are weight-wise to where you want to be. Just so you know, there was a period of time in my life where I was well over 200 pounds and I stand (on good days!) at 5 foot 8 inches. That was 8 years ago and the weight has never come back.
For your safety, you are advised to check with your doctor before attempting any weight loss program. This is especially important if you have an illness such as diabetes.
Let’s get down to business:
Chances are you’ve already heard it: “You need to lose weight.” There’s nothing like feeling helpless and/or frustrated in the face of the obvious.
You know what you should do. Your doctor has told you. Your dietician has told you. Your mother has told you. Everyone has told you. But, most of those people have never had to lose weight and they don’t know how difficult it can be.
And some of those who have lost weight can be really annoying because they righteously say: “I did it so you can to.” The point is that you’ve probably tried everything and every diet and nothing seems to work and like most people who have tried everything, you may feel discouraged, disappointed in yourself and perhaps even hopeless.
So, what can hypnosis do that’s different? Hypnosis can really help because it doesn’t address the symptoms of obesity–overeating and not exercising enough. Shoot, you already know how to lose weight. Chances are you’ve lost weight a hundred different times only to gain it back plus some more!
By the way, when I explain the above to my clients many of them ask: “What’s the difference between hypnosis and self-hypnosis?” Easy answer: There is no difference. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. A hypnotist doesn’t ‘zap’ you or make you do anything. A hypnotist just helps you to utilize your power of self-hypnosis. He or she can only guide you to that area of your mind and spirit where you can make changes for the better.
So, as mentioned, hypnosis doesn’t address the symptoms of being overweight. Hypnosis addresses the cause. The bottom line is that a person’s bottom gets smaller once they start losing the weight on the inside because more often than not, there are emotional reasons for being overweight.
If there are no emotionally heavy issues, then hypnosis is really fantastic because the weight loss can be sudden and very easy. I have had many clients begin to lose weight easily after one session of hypnosis because their only challenge was that overeating was a habit not driven by emotional reasons.
So, this article will coach you on how to address and change the three main reasons for weight gain (but not medical-physiological reasons such as hypothyroidism):
(1) Eliminating ‘the habit’ of overeating
(2) Changing those inner dynamics (emotions) that can significantly contribute to a person’s unconscious need to overeat.
(3) Lack of activity (also known to the guilt-ridden as ‘exercise’).
How To Eliminate The Simple Habit of Overeating
(At the end of this article you will be given exact instructions on how to guide yourself into trance and give yourself hypnotic weight loss suggestions. I will also share with you how you can easily make your own hypnosis tape.)
Simple habits can easily be eliminated using self-hypnosis because once you are in a healing trance, you can literally ‘unhook’ from the habit. This happens because your emotions for wanting to be thinner, healthier and happier easily outweigh the habit emotions. The results can be spectacular because it only takes small changes to make a big difference.
Here’s an example of how a small change can make a big difference: If a person consumes an extra 100 calories per day, they will 10 pounds heavier at the end of one year! 100 calories is less than one can of sweet soda.
Imagine eliminating just one can of soda or its equivalent (bagel, donut, etc..) per day. It’s almost too easy. It’s not even a matter of will power because it is actually a matter of ‘preference’ power.
In trance you can coach yourself to prefer a glass of water over a soda provided that the sweet drink (or equivalent) is not being consumed for emotional reasons usually identified by inner statements such as: “I deserve this” or “if he won’t stop drinking beer than I’ll keep drinking soda”, etc..
By the way, speaking of habits, it is well known that women more so than men, smoke cigarettes as a form of weight control.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to free yourself from that habit if you knew that you can easily avoid the trap of substituting food for smokes? You can.
